Hypnotherapy is all about helping you to make changes. To lose weight you have to make changes.
There are two sorts of changes which will help you lose weight: changes to your diet and changes to your exercise routine. Hypnotherapy will help you to make changes to one or the other or both of these.
Before you go any further, take a few moments to think about your goal – your target. I am not only talking about the amount of weight you want to lose. That is important, but there are other important issues too. It would be nice to be able to fit in to that slim-fitting suit or those tight designer jeans you bought years ago! It is good to look slim. It is better to look healthy and vigorous. Hypnotherapy is all about promoting health and well-being.
Changes can be short-term or long-term. You probably already know about the short-term changes, the crash-diets and dietary fads which will lose weight in the short term but which you simply can’t live with. Those are not the sort of changes I’m interested in. They don’t last.
One size does not fit all. We are all different. One person may need to lose a lot of weight, another person only a little. One person may need to eat less, another may need to exercise more. A dietary plan which is suitable for Mr. A might not be appropriate for Mrs B. There is a lot of help and advice available. And if you’re in any doubt at all, never be afraid to consult your GP.
Hypnotherapy can help you to make all the changes you need. But you need to be clear about what those changes will be. They need to be:
- Realistic. For example, if you work long hours you’re not going to have time to go jogging for an hour a day!
- Right for your lifestyle. If you are a busy person you don’t need a diet which is fiddly to prepare or awkward to shop for. Are your dietary changes compatible with the diet of the rest of your household?
- Right for you as a person. Try to find a diet which features food you like to eat. If you don’t like one form of exercise (jogging perhaps) then take up another (swimming, cycling), or even a sport (anyone for karate?!).
It is all about preparation. If you are clear about which changes you wish to make and why you want to make them, then the rest – with the help of hypnotherapy – is pretty plain sailing.
